A GROUND FLOOR PRODUCTION

More than 15,000 Jewish children passed through Terezin during World War II, and only about one hundred were still alive when it was liberated.

This powerful production shares the true story of those children through the eyes of Raja, a survivor who, even in the face of unimaginable hardship, helped create a space for learning, imagination, and hope. Through her memories, audiences witness how the children found moments of joy—through laughter, art, and the image of butterflies.

Though there were no butterflies at Terezin, they became a symbol of resilience and defiance, making it possible for the children to imagine, endure, and hold on to hope.

This production feature live music of the culture and time period, curated and performed by UIS Music faculty.
